The mood board includes pictures of clubs and people enjoying the sound of Dubstep. It provides a sense of atmosphere for me as a researcher, and helps to stimulate our ideas for our music video.
It also includes main themes which are going to be in our video, for example a laptop and when the base drops.
After thinking we came to the conclusion that the music video should not be centred around the obvious (the postman). The main theme should be the changes in technology over time. What brought us to this conclusion was the understanding that many dated uses are coming back in fashion, such as vintage clothes, antiques, and even music is using concepts which are 'dated' such as the Marvellettes in our chosen song. The letter is the main theme as it is the letter which the Marvelletts are singing about. We interpret this for our modern audience by going through time via the use of technology-computer, Iphone (all modern ways of communication, as oppposed to the letters used back in the day).
The mixture between the new sound of dubstep and the Marvellettes is an important concept. Beliefs, technology and mannerisms have changed darastically during the centuries. Letters were the only means of communication back then whereas today we have technology. We wanted to show the change in our video and because the music is both old fashioned and modern, we are going to show values of the past and the present .
(Set in a club) 2010 girl in the toilets-very distressed Her phone starts ringing, she answers and face-time starts On the screen her boyfriend is talking/ smiling. She kisses the screen She goes back into the club (as music gets slower) she turns her head He is standing looking at her amongst the crowd. *slow motion* he walks towards her he pulls out a letter She takes the letter and the song ends on them hugging
IDEA 2:
Instead of going back in the club, she leaves the toilets and goes to the park to think Her phone rings, face-time starts with her boyfriend She turns around (slow motion) He is standing in the distance Close up of girls face. He starts to walk over to her (long shot) she stands in the same place but her costumes change from 2010, 1980 and 1960 as he walks towards her Flash of her looking out of the window in the 60’s (flash backs) he hands her a letter Flashback of postman handing her a letter, laptop opening, computer with people in it (all done fast motion in flashes) Wearing 2010 she takes the letter They hug Dancing people with coloured backgrounds flash on and off the screen Last ‘oh’ they hug
I asked 8 people who were 17/18 to decide what the best greeting was (being told that the couple haven’t seen each other for a very long time). They came up with these scenarios: Ideas for how the girl and boyfriend greet each other: -he cups her face passionately (1) -they kiss (2) -they look at each other (1) -they hug (4)
The majority chose hug because they said it isn’t too cheesy, it’s more natural and it could be more meaningful because they haven’t seen each other in a long time. I believe it is more meaningful because it involves the whole body and they will be hugging for a long time, meaning they are in need of each other’s comfort, and that they have missed each other.
